Subject t: Unlawful Demolition of Footpath Protection at Chick Bazaar Road, Tasker Town ? Harassment of Senior Citizen and Risk to Property
Complaint / Requirement

Respected Sir/Madam,

I, Hiralal, aged 85 years, a lifelong resident ofTasker Town, Bengaluru, am writing with deep anguish and protest over the unauthorised demolition carried out by BBMP staff today, of the protective elevation on the footpath adjoining my residence at #1, Munshi Akbar Hussain Road, without any notice, hearing, or lawful procedure.

I am a native of Bangalore, born and brought up in this very ward. In 1977, I purchased the corner property at the junction of Munshi Akbar Hussain Road and Chick Bazaar Road (Tasker Town) and have lived there since. I have beenretired for 25 years, with no regular source of income. I depend on a modest 200 sq. ft. basement shed at my residence, which I have rented out to sustain my daily needs and medical expenses.

My house sits on a natural slope, and during monsoons, stormwater right from the Indian Express Junction stretch flows directly into my property, flooding the basement shop. I have suffered recurring damages as a result.

Since no civic stormwater solution has been provided by BBMP despite repeated hardship, I have—at my own expense—elevated the footpath by six inches, matching the standard BBMP elevation elsewhere. This action has helped prevent rainwater from entering the premises and has not obstructed pedestrian movement.

However, on the baseless complaint of a neighbour, who himself has illegally raised his footpath level by 18 inches, BBMP officials arrived without any written order, notice, or prior communication and demolished the protective elevation built by me. This unjust and selective action has now exposed my property to immediate and future flooding risk, especially during the ongoing monsoon.

This action amounts to:

  • Targeted harassment of a senior citizen
  • Violation of Article 21 of the Constitution(Right to Life and Livelihood)
  • Negligence causing financial loss (tenant damage, loss of rental income)
  • Abuse of administrative power without procedural compliance

I state unequivocally that I have not violated any BBMP norms, nor encroached on government property. I have responsibly maintained the footpath since 1977 and remain a compliant taxpayer and law-abiding citizen.

I hereby request:

  1. An immediate departmental inquiry against the officials responsible for today’s unlawful action.
  2. Restoration of the protective elevation to prevent rainwater damage.
  3. Compensation for loss incurred, including damage to tenant goods and loss of rent.
  4. formal written explanation and apologyfrom the BBMP officials concerned.
  5. Assurance of no further harassment without following due process and statutory rights.

I sincerely hope that this matter can be addressed amicably and remedied without the need for any further escalation.

Thanking You

Yours Faithfully

Hiralal
